April 28, 2011: Online Professional Portfolio

Today in class we are continuing to work on our online portfolio by adding the five standards.  We began by creating 6 new pages for each of the 5 standards and also a video page.  After creating the pages, we edited the sidebar so that the pages would show under the introduction page.  We discussed how to include content in each standard and what else we may want to put on our site.  I added the link to each Content Standard on my portfolio.

April 26, 2011: Windows Live Movie Maker

Today in class we opened out Photostory project up in Windows Live Movie Maker.  We looked and discussed how Photostory and Movie Maker differ.  Instead of uploading each picture individually like we did in Photostory, we were able to upload our completed photostory video as a whole on Movie Maker.  After uploading the video, we added a title and credits.  We then saved our project as a .wmv file like photostory, and put it on the desktop.  Mr. Pierce told us it would be wiser to use photostory as opposed to Windows Live Movie Maker because my video is 5.72 MB on photostiry, and 126 MB on Movie Maker.  As you can see, it would make much more sense to use Photostory.

We then opened up the website, BenderConverter and learned how to change videos from youtube and other websites and save them on the desktop or anywhere wlse on your computer so that you will have it for future use.  This concluded our video portion.

For the remainder of class we discussed creating our online portfolio.
      1. Edit Pages
      2. Integrate GDocs
      3. Navigation Bar
This portfolio basically sums everything up we have learned this semester and also, included things we have learned in all of our education classes.
We began this project today by creating a site on google.

April 21, 2011: Photostory

Tuesday and Thursday in class, we designed and created a digital movie without a digital movie program!  We used the program Photostory 3 to create a video composed of pictures and powerpoint slides.  The transitions were changed on each picture so that the most appropriate information is shown in the delivery of the movie.  After completing the movie, we saved our wideo as a wmv file, created a youtube account, and uploaded the video onto youtube.

The embedded version of my video is included below.

April 14, 2011: Prezi

We did not meet in class today, instead we created a Prezi presentation using the information from our powerpoint.  Prezi is a website where you can create a different type of presentation/movie on one big spreadsheet.  You can use frames, zoom in and out, and make a path for your presentation.  The finished project will be just like a movie.

April 5, 2011: Powerpoint 1

Today in class we discussed powerpoints and the right and wrong way to make one.  We watched an example powerpoint about water that was very effective and a good example of what a powerpoint should look like.  At the end of class we had a few minutes to pick a topic for our own powerpoint and then we each said what our topics were going to be.  The subject I chose to do my powerpoint on was positive and negative numbers. We are not meeting in class on Thursday so that we can work on our powerpoint and upload it onto the internet.

April 5, 2011: Converting PDF File to Edit Document.

Today in class we learned how to edit a PDF file.  Initially, when you open a PDF file you can not edit it, but if you convert it into a Word document, you are able to do editing.  This is a new process that is available to people, but sometimes it will not work.  When I went to convert my file, after opening microsoft word, it would not bring the correct conversion tool up.  Sometimes this may happen and other times you will be able to convert your document, but some charts or tables may be messed up and not look the same as they did when you originially created them.  Still other times the conversion may work perfectly and you will be able to edit your document in Microsoft Word with no problem.  Although my computer would not allow this process to take place, I have still included the video I made that shows the steps up to opening it in Microsoft Word.  In order to make this video, I used the Jing tool.

Here is how to convert PDF files (to an extent).
